Sherine Green is joining Future of Faith as a Ministry Practitioner, providing a valued perspective into the impact of listening on day to day ministry.
She is a wife, mom and an educator. She's served the church in the modern world in many roles—including administration, management, education, consultation, facilitation, mission leadership, and writing.
Sherine has learned that she has a deep passion for people, culture, and immersion. She is a walking cultural blend.Â
Over the last few years, Sherine's spent time working around the world doing service‑learning while inviting people of goodwill to share in such experiences.
She is blessed daily with creative opportunities to guide elementary, high school, college, leadership, & parish communities in discovering the sacred power of story—where their shared narratives become vessels of grace, formation, and encounter with the living God.
Let's get to know Sherine a little more.Â
What’s a small but meaningful way you show others they’re truly heard?
I listen with my full presence.
I give my complete attention so the person in front of me feels like the most important person in that moment.
I follow up thoughtfully.
I send thank‑you notes, check‑ins, and follow‑up messages after ministry conversations. This can be a handwritten letter, email, text, phone call, or sharing coffee—whatever helps the person feel valued.
I elevate voices that are often overlooked.
I make space for those who aren’t usually encouraged, celebrated, or heard, and I intentionally spotlight their contributions.
I respond with empathy.
I share in a way that communicates understanding, compassion, and care.
What advice would you give to others who want to build stronger connections within their faith communities?
As a leader -Â
See people intentionally. Pay attention and remember details—it strengthens connection.
Notice shared patterns. Recognize similarities you have with others.Â
Connect heart‑to‑heart. Be genuine and present.
Show mutual respect. Honor each relationship.
Be authentic. Show up as your true self.Â
Use comfortable eye contact. It builds trust.
Be confident and radiant. Let your presence uplift others.
Build circles. Create ongoing groups (e.g., Moms Circle, Teen Circle, Culture Circle).
Meet new people weekly. Aim for at least five. Go deeper—coffee, conversations, connection.
Follow up intentionally. Don’t let connections fade.
Communicate clearly. Repeat your core message across many channels (love, equity, collaboration, gospel-centered worship, etc.).Â
Develop your brand. Reflect daily on the identity you’re shaping.Â
Build and support core leaders. Strengthen them and prevent burnout.
Invite new leaders. Look for hearts ready to serve and help them grow.
Learn the community. Understand strengths, challenges, hopes, and aspirations.
Know the community’s DNA. What are you known for? Who do you want to become?Â
As a community member participant-
Seek opportunities to serve, connect, mentor, and learn.
Reach out to staff leaders and ask how you can support their needs.Â
Identify your gifts and skills and see where they fit—whether in a new ministry or an existing one.
Write a brief introduction to your faith and ministry leaders, sharing who you are and what you value about their work.
Greet at least two new people each week to build community and deepen relationships.
What is one book that shaped your approach to ministry?
In this moment of my ministry career - The Joy Luck Club which focuses on the power of storytelling and the extraordinary gift it is in bringing groups of people together.
What is one podcast you'd recommend?Â
In Good Faith.
Would you rather everyone hear your thoughts for one day or have to say everything you think for a week?
If people could hear all my thoughts for just one day, they’d probably get overwhelmed and stop listening—my mind is constantly generating ideas, processing new learning, exploring cultural contexts, reframing perspectives, and diving into deep curiosity.
