We first met Kris through a past feature and now we’re thrilled to call them a teammate in this one. Please welcome Kris as our newest Ministry Practitioner!!! Some time has passed since we had learned about Kris so let’s see what they’ve been up to besides joining the Future of Faith team.

Kris Jordan is a wife, mom of 7, and openly queer youth minister at House Church Tulsa and The Well. Kris is also active in community organizations like Action Tulsa and other mental health networks for teens and young adults. Kris enjoys reading, writing, hiking, and playing basketball. Kris also enjoys consulting and writing curriculum through center for youth and contemplation for faith organizations and working as a ministry practitioner for future of faith. Pursuing their MDiv at Phillips Theological Seminary, Kris hopes to continue to use their identity, unique understanding, and life experiences alongside their education to impact the lives of youth and young adults in faith formation and exploration.

1. What’s a small but meaningful way you show others they’re truly heard?

I try hard to have my phone away when I am in settings with folks and to ensure that they feel that I am listening I want to ask questions or seek further clarification in what they are communicating and often reflect back what I hear.

2. What advice would you give to others who want to build stronger connections within their faith communities?

Reach out to folks who are like you and especially those who are not like you and grab a coffee and seek to connect through engaging in each other's stories.

3. What is one book that shaped your approach to ministry?

Doing local theology because it allows or invites a depth to know what the landscape is around your ministry context to connect it with the broader landscape of your faith tradition and the differing questions, doubt, and beliefs that people hold.

4. What is one podcast you’d recommend?

Good Hang with Amy Poehler because it is funny, insightful, and refreshing and I love her comedic style.

5. Would you rather be able to talk to your past self or your future self?

Def, my future self and let them know not to worry so much about the i's and the t's and trust their intuition.
