While the next leg of his journey brings him to work on projects as a Ministry Practitioner with Future of Faith, Greg is discerning his next adventure! If you know of an organization that needs someone with Greg’s background and skills feel free to reach out on directly!
Let’s get to know him a little.
What’s a small but meaningful way you show others they’re truly heard? I have learned the power of curiosity. Being genuinely curious about someone, their stories, their experiences, and their thoughts has a significant impact. So, I ask a lot of questions, work to listen well to their answers, and seek to understand how they experience the world.
What advice would you give to others who want to build stronger connections within their faith communities? Faith formation best happens when we are in trusted and healthy relationships. It is how God has designed us and the church. If you can find 3-5 really trustworthy people who genuinely know you, care about you, and will pursue faith alongside of you, you will be changed. So, learn to search for people of peace, people who like you, want to spend time with you, and will join you on the journey.
What is one book that shaped your approach to ministry? My understanding of the gospel and approach to ministry were forever altered, during college, when I was assigned The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard. Willard opened my life to a far more beautiful, holistic, and compelling gospel that could embody good news in ways I have never before imagined.
What is one podcast you’d recommend? My friends over at Gravity Commons have a fantastic podcast. (https://gravitycommons.com/podcast/) They have spent the past decade as helpful guides and conversation partners for those who are asking big questions about Christianity and what it means to live faithfully in this moment.
Would you rather have the ability to see 10 minutes into the future or 150 years into the future? Living in a world with instant access to information has convinced me I never want to know the future! As a huge sports fan, one who will often try and record a game to watch later, I live in fear of finding out what has already happened, because knowing deeply impacts my experience of watching. The tension of not knowing is the excruciating payoff of being a fan. Please don’t make me know the future!
