"Truly, I say unto you, today thou shalt be with me in paradise.”

About The Art: Nina’s Liturgy: The Last Words

This visual collection, punctuated by the seven last recorded words of Jesus as he faces execution is carried along by a curated musical liturgy as sung by Nina Simone. The courage of Jesus in facing capital execution in fulfillment of a cosmic mission, alongside the courage of Miss Simone in challenging the structural racism of American culture through art and music, moves us to remember that Lent is an invitation into divine storytelling– a reminder that the Christian faith is as much about action and transformation as it is about contemplation and reflection.

Note: The title of each piece corresponds to a recorded Nina Simone Track. The caption for each painting is one of Christ’ Seven Last Words. The Artists encourage each peace to be contemplated alongside the scripture and the listening of the musical accompaniment by Nina Simone.

Materials: Charcoal, Gold Gilding Flakes, Acrylic on Paper, 11x14in
